A Call for Soccer Balls

Adam Bacher is a very talented guy here in Portland who also does cool humanitarian work in Rwanda. In fact, he's leaving for Africa again on November 8th and he's trying to collect 100 soccer balls to take with him to give to the kids of Rwanda. The balls don't have to be new, either....so if you have some that are gathering dust in your garage and want to donate them, send me an e-mail and I will give you the details. (If you're in Portland, Adam can pick them up; otherwise you can deflate them and mail them to him, but hurry---Adam is leaving in just two weeks.)

I wish that I could go along because I am a VERY good soccer player...

Smug as a Pug...and She Deserves It!

Hey Everybody,

I want you to meet my new friend Emmi, who lives with her forever family in Las Vegas (where it was 99 degrees last night, argh!!!).

Doesn't Emmi look very pleased with herself? Well, she deserves to be! This picture was taken right after Emmi passed her certification test to become a therapy dog. As soon as Emmi and her mom, Claire, get their certification card in the mail they'll start visiting a local hospice to spread some "Emmi" love to people who need it the most.

Apparently, Emmi is a natural at therapy work because she's sweet and loving and also very mellow (Emmi's anywhere from 7 to 9 years old). Nobody knows her exact age because she was abandoned in an apartment without any food or water. Fortunately, she was rescued by a great organization called www.rescuepugs.com, which is how she eventually made her way to Claire.

Way to go on getting certified as a therapy dog, Emmi!!!!

Friends Come in all Sizes

Love the One You're With

Wow, I can't believe it but this February is the THIRD anniversary of my blog, Bella's Boxer Shorts. Way back in February 2006 I came home to live with Mom and Dad in Portland. As soon as my parents carried me out of the car, I met my forever boyfriend, Norman. Norman lived across the street until last year and then he moved far, far away with his parents. I've had a couple of love interests since then, but nothing really compares to your first true love.

So, Norman, I hope you have a happy Valentine's Day even if you are dating someone else right now. And, as the saying goes, "If you can't be with the one you love, then love the one you're with!"

Bella: 10; Penguins: 0 -- Ha!

Although the penguin poll hasn't officially shut down, I think it's fair to say that I won!! So far, my blogging buddies have cast 10 votes for me....and zero for the birds in the funny suits. However, it has been pointed out to me that my own choice of winter attire is rather comical:

Regardless, I'm still smarter than those penguins....at least I have the good sense to wear warm clothing in the cold weather. Plus, I live indoors. Lock Me Up & Throw Away The Key...

OK, OK...I've been delinquent in updating my blog. But believe me, I've suffered enough. The "Blog Police" came to my door, subpoenaed me, and then threw me into the slammer!! Don't believe me? Here is the evidence:

OK, OK, OK, OK....I made that up too. This is actually a picture of Inmate #WD4529803, otherwise known Eli. He and I are buddies and we play together whenever I go down to spend time with godmother. Eli has lots of energy and is a lot of fun to wrestle with. I even let him share my pillow, which is really saying something!!

As for forgetting to update my blog, I'm sorry. Mom and Dad have been really busy with work and they've been hogging the computers. It's also the beginning of Fall which means that I spend 90% of the day hibernating next to the heating vents. I promise to do better!

Slumber Party!!

Oh...My...Dog...

This weekend was my first slumber party and it was PAWSOME! My friends Daniela and David came to Portland with their parents on Friday night and we turned the guest bedroom into an indoor campsite. The kids slept on the air mattress and the camping pad, and I got to squeeze in between. Thank goodness for sibling rivalry, too, because they spent most of the time competing to see who could hug me more.

Now, if only we had had some s'mores!
